On January 31 this year, the second phase of the Swiss humanitarian project was completed, under which dairy farms in the Kharkiv region were able to receive the necessary means to ensure hygiene in milk production.
The goal of the Swiss humanitarian initiative is to ensure food security in general and in particular by improving access to quality and safe milk and dairy products produced in Ukraine for the population of Ukraine.
Before the war, Kharkiv region ranked third in national statistics in terms of milk production by agricultural enterprises and was a key region for supplying milk of the highest quality, the Extra grade, for processing. In order to preserve production potential after the de-occupation of the territories, 64 farms received the necessary means of washing and disinfecting milking equipment, pre- and post-milking udder treatment, udder hygiene wipes, gloves, milk filters, reagents for detecting latent forms of mastitis, disinfectants for livestock premises, etc. as part of the humanitarian project, which will fully cover their quarterly needs. The project covered 68% of the registered production facilities in Kharkiv region, which housed more than 64,000 cattle, including more than 25,000 cows.
The project was implemented at the request of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine in cooperation with the Association of Milk Producers (AMP), the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection and the international Charity Fund SAVE UA coordinated by the Embassy of Switzerland in Ukraine.
Switzerland will continue to support Ukraine's agricultural sector through international technical assistance programs and projects as well as humanitarian initiatives.
