Support for dairy enterprises

Support for dairy enterprises

At the request of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, a humanitarian project funded by the Swiss Government is being implemented in cooperation with the Association of Milk Producers of Ukraine (AMPU), the international charity foundation SaveUA, and the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection under the coordination of the Embassy of Switzerland in Ukraine.

The aim of the project is to ensure food security in general and, in particular, by improving access to quality and safe dairy products produced in Ukraine for the population of Ukraine.

Switzerland has allocated funding to support dairy farms in the regions affected by the fighting, namely Chernihiv, Kyiv and Sumy regions. Farms in these areas will receive humanitarian aid in the form of hygiene products worth CHF 2.5 million (almost UAH 100 million).

In November 2022, the SaveUA team began distributing humanitarian aid to 77 dairy enterprises in the de-occupied territories. The farms will receive products for washing and disinfecting milking equipment, pre- and post-milking udder treatment, udder hygiene wipes, gloves, reagents for detecting hidden forms of mastitis, disinfectants for livestock premises, etc. to fully cover their quarterly needs.

Compliance with milk production hygiene plays an important role in ensuring milk safety. Implementation of the project will help avoid disruptions in further milk processing, on the one hand, and the emergence of disease outbreaks among consumers, on the other. SaveUA, together with its partners, will eliminate the risk that poor milking hygiene will lead to poor animal health at the farm level, triggering a negative cycle of disease spread, which will also have a negative impact on food safety.

We emphasize that on the way to restoring the capacity of Ukraine's dairy sector, it is important to support production technologies based on high hygiene standards for quality and safe food.

For information: as of November 7, 2022, humanitarian aid has been delivered to 77 dairy enterprises, including 27 in Chernihiv region, 31 in Kyiv region, and 19 in Sumy region.
